THE MAGNIFICENT DAL LAKE

The second largest lake in the Union Territory, Dal Lake is located in the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir. One can experience its four different views in four different seasons.

Manasbal Lake

The deepest lake in India, Manasbal Lake is situated in the Ganderbal district of Kashmir province. The lake is surrounded by three villages and is considered a good place for bird-watching as it is one of the largest natural stamping grounds of aquatic birds in Kashmir.

Doodhpathri

Doodhpathri is a beautiful meadow with emerald grass that looks like a green carpet. A beautiful river dancing and reverberating with the wind flow in the middle of the meadow, lending it a splendid charm and vibrancy. The place looks very beautiful and pleasant. The green grass under the feet is really wonderful.

 

Pahalgam

This “Valley of Shepherds” lies in the district Anantnag of the Kashmir province. Pahalgam is nature-lovers retreat with its mesmerizing and breath-taking view giving a hint of paradise. While sitting on the banks of the Lidder River, visitors can enjoy the mesmerizing lush meadows, verdant forests, sky-kissing mountains, apple orchards, and a very peaceful environment. Pahalgam is also popular as a spiritual destination for being the starting point of the Amarnath Yatra, which is undertaken by Hindu pilgrims during the months of June & August and begins at a town called Chandanwari, located almost 16 kilometers from it.

Sonamarg

The “Meadow of Gold”, which is the literal meaning of the word ‘Sonmarg’, is a scenic hill station in the Kashmir valley. This place is adorned with a majestic glacier, meadow, dense forests, and snow-capped mountains making it an ideal holiday destination in Kashmir. Amongst the most popular treks starting from Sonmarg are Gangabal Lake Trek and Krishansar and Vishansar twin lakes which in fact also make for important brown trout fishing destinations in Kashmir. The Baltal Valley, located 15km away, is one of the best tourist destinations near Sonmarg. It offers some of the most breathtaking views of the Himalayas.

Gulmarg

A vacation in Gulmarg pledges to be a promising one. This cup-shaped valley is nestled in the Pir Panjal range and is a magical destination for tourists to visit in the winter season as both family and honeymoon trips. Gulmarg also offers its fair share of thrill & adventure to tourists. The most popular adventure activity in Gulmarg is skiing, which can be enjoyed by both amateur & experienced skiers. Other than that, tourists can also enjoy a Gondola cable car ride, enjoy trekking & trout fishing.

Lolab Valley

Synonymous with divine beauty with enticing scenery, this valley is sure to make you fall in love with it. It is an oval-shaped valley 24 km in length with an average width of 3.2 km. From orchards, paddy fields, lakes, and springs to meadows, this place offers everyone to explore and enjoy the bewitching nature. Located in the north-western side of Srinagar city and it lies 9km north from Kupwara. This remote place sure does surprise many with its raw beauty. Here lays a lake called Satisar and a spring called Lavnag which is three feet deep with crystal clear water.

Bangus Valley

A hidden and untapped place with some charming views which will leave you enthralled. A relatively unknown place that doesn’t much attention to tourists but J&K tourism has been actively working in making it fully functional as an active tourist location. It is located in the north of Kashmir in the Kupwara district and lies within the Handwara sub-district.

Sinthan Top

It is one of the rarest places in Kashmir which is very well connected by the newly opened Anantnag-Kokernag-Sinthan-Kishtwar road. Covered with dense pine forests, lakes, and mountains, this place will fascinate and engross your mind completely. Nature here is in its best splendor and two different valleys can be seen from the mountain peak.

 

Kokernag

Kokernag is a town and a notified area committee in the Anantnag district in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Koker means ‘fowl’ and nag means ‘serpent’. The spring gushes out of the base of a thickly wooded hill from where it divides into channels, which resemble the claw-foot of a hen, hence its name. Kokernag is at a height of (approx.)2000 mts from sea level. The place is famous for its gardens, the largest freshwater springs in Kashmir, and for its trout streams.

Verinag

One of the largest springs, Verinag, which lies in the Kothar district, is 78 km southeast of Srinagar (via Anantnag) and is easily accessible through a by-pass from the Jammu – Srinagar highway. Just as you enter the valley of Kashmir, through the Jawahar tunnel at Banihal, is a site where nature meets scenic beauty. The spring emerges from the Jhelum river and the name “Verinag” is named after a neighboring village Ver and Nag which means “spring” in Kashmiri.
